In 2024 I decided I would not stand for re-election as Ramsgate’s Kent County Councillor. The local elections in May 2025 brought to an end my 10 years representing the locality, starting at at Thanet District Council then two terms at Kent County Council.

Life after council
In November 2024 I published my first book. Taken: Experiences of Forced Adoption seeks to break the silence surrounding the historic forced adoptions that tore apart the lives of thousands of mothers and their children up until the 1980s.
Through painstaking research, first-hand accounts, and heartfelt narrative, I bring to light the experiences of young women and girls who were institutionalised, silenced, and ultimately stripped of their newborns, alongside the life-long impact on those children who were taken from them.
This is a political book, published at a time when historical forced adoption is gaining wider public attention and campaigners step up the pressure on the new Labour government to issue an apology for the state’s part in the practise.
