Karen Constantine: District Councillor’s Report, June 2016

Fund raising efforts – pie and pint

We raised a staggering £670 and then had a further donation from Unison of £370. And a £60 donation given to me at a Momentum film night. I’m planning another fund raiser to support Penny’s campaign. I feel it’s important that we keep up our own morale and spirits! Especially now. Thanks to all who came, contributed food and drink etc. Thanks also to Jenny Matterface for organising a great raffle.

Case work.

There remains a steady flow of case work. I’m assisting 3 new residents with a variety of issues. Invariable they tend to be complicated. Sometimes there isn’t an immediate solution. Often the issue is beyond the realm of a councillor. One in particular has been referred to me by Craig MacKinlay. I’m still chasing Madeline Homer for a bulk refuge service. But have succeeded in get a bench and a bin put in on the green in Princess Margaret Avenue.

Regular surgeries are being held. A few more enquires coming in by phone and email.

I visited the local school and will be going back, I’m working with Mr Stokes to get a nearby area ‘tidied up’.

WASPI conference

The local conference is coming along well. We have all the arrangements in place. We had a leaflet defined (poor Chris!) if anyone wants to help distribute please contact either Cllr Jenny Matterface or myself after 6th July. We need as much support for this as possible. It would be good to have a labour information stand at this event. I will be generating more social media and would be great full if you would share. 29th July 10-12 Oddfellows Hall.

Fabians

Fabians  meeting on the NHS provided a good discussion. The next meeting will be focussing on the ‘workers charter ‘ (late July) more info to follow and all invited.

NHS

I was lucky to attend the NHS confederation conference and will be providing an update on local implications soon.
